Major Characters
Hazel Grace Lancaster
The main character in the novel; The story is from her point of view. She is a teenage girl that has lung cancer, and is terminally ill. She likes to read and her favorite book is An Imperial Affliction. She likes to watch America's Next Top Model. Hazel is not in school because she has cancer. She takes college courses sometimes though. She goes to a cancer kid support group at her church sometimes. Hazel has no siblings, but has two parents that love her.
Augustus Waters
Augustus lost one of his legs to Osteosarcoma. He goes to support group at the beginning of the book and cannot stop staring at Hazel, because she looks just like his old girlfriend that died to brain cancer. He ends up going to Amsterdam with Hazel. He had his leg cut off so the disease wouldn't spread, but it turns out that it did. Augustus ends up dying after they get back from Amsterdam.
Minor Characters
Issac
Issac is the one who brought Augustus to support group at the beginning of the book. He is also a teenager, and has eye cancer, so his glasses were extremely thick. Then he had to get his eyes cut out, so he became blind. He had a girlfriend that he adored, but she broke up with him before he got his eyes cut out, because it would be too hard for her to break up with a blind guy. He is Augustus's best friend.
Hazel's mom
Hazel's mom is really protective, and is always there for Hazel. She doesn't go to work or have a job, she stays home to look after Hazel. She ends up going to Amsterdam with Hazel and Augustus, as a chaperon. She is working to get her masters in social work.
Hazel's dad
Hazel's dad is really nice, and loving to Hazel. He is really wise. He has to go to work everyday, so he doesn't get to see Hazel during the day, but he wishes he could. He cries a lot; more than any parent should. He usually, if not always, cries about Hazel. He loves her a ton.
Lidewij
Lidewij is Peter Van Houten's assistant. When Peter is being terribly awfully mean to Hazel and Augustus, she quits her job. she has a ton of benevolence and is super nice. She lives in Amsterdam.
Peter Van Houten
Peter Van Houten is The author of Hazel's favorite book, An Imperial Affliction. He wrote it about the daugter he had who had cancer, she died when she was eight. Now he drinks to numb the pain. He is an alcoholic. When Hazel and Augustus come
Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn is one of Hazel's only friends that she used to go to school with. They still talk sometimes, but they rarely ever hang out.
